Chiang Mai Slow Boat to Luang Prabang
Tours depart from your Chiang Mai Hotel every Monday and Friday. If you are looking to travel in the opposite direction, please check out our Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai tour which departs every Thursday and Sunday.

Day 1: Chiang Mai – Chiang Saen

Pickup between 7am and 7:30am from the hotel for your join-in tour to the Golden Triangle. Drive to Mae Kachan hot springs where we will spend about 30 minutes. Continue to Chiang Saen and visit some of the ruins and temples of ancient Chiang Saen.
From here, continue to the Golden Triangle where the borders of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet and enjoy lunch at a riverside restaurant. You will also visit Mae Sai on the border of Myanmar and Thailand.
Your guide will arrange transportation to the hotel for you in Chiang Saen and the rest of the afternoon is free at leisure.
Overnight Chiang Saen River Hill Hotel
Day 2: Chiang Saen – Chiang Khong – Pakbeng
Meals: B
After an early breakfast transfer to Chiang Khong at 7 AM. Go through Thai immigration and take a local boat to cross the river (on own costs). The Shompoo Cruise representative will be waiting for you as you exit Lao Immigration. After processing your visa and completing immigration and customs formalities you will be transferred to the slow boat pier where your boat will be waiting for you.
The boat is very comfortable with a maximum of 40 people sat around 10 tables of 4. The onboard kitchen provides fresh meals, and a selection of games, books, DVD player and electrical sockets ensure your trip passes in comfort.
On the way, the boat will take its first stop in Pak Tha, to have the voyage documents signed. The second stop will be to visit a Kamu village along the Mekong River at Ban Houey Phalam. Lunch is available on board. The boat will arrive in Pakbeng in the late afternoon.
Upon arrival in Pakbeng, make you own way to Pethsokxai Hotel.
Day 3: Pakbeng – Luang Prabang
Meals: B
After breakfast walk back to the boat pier and board the Shompoo Cruise for another day of cruising on the Mekong River. At 8:30am, the boat leaves Pakbeng. On the way, we will make one stop. Visit Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting) and its thousands of Buddha images. Lunch is available on board.
You will arrive in Luang Prabang around 5:00pm.
