Mae Hong Son Loop

MorningMist-BanRuanThaiMae Hong Song or the “The Land of the Three Mists” is one of the most northerly provinces in Thailand, home to the highest mountains and some of the most forested terrain. This 5 day 4 night tour will give you a chance to experience the natural beauty of the surrounding area and get to know the hill tribe peoples living there.

During the tour you will pass over the highest mountain in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, and drive through the surrounding National Park, meet some of the hill tribes such as the Karen and Lawa and spend a night with a local family in a hill tribe village. Also, you will be taken to some of the temples that are dotted around the landscape, have a chance to ride elephants, take bamboo rafts through limestone caves and visit hot springs.

Day 1: Depart Chiang Mai for Mae Sariang

ViewfromDoiInthanon-ChiangMaiYou will leave for Mae Sariang at 9:00am via 4WD to ascend the highest point in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, and drive through the surrounding National Park. On the way up to the summit we will stop to visit some spectacular waterfalls and 2 Royal Pagodas near the summit. Then it’s onto Mae Sariang - a small rural town and gateway to Mae Hong Son province, where you will spend the night in a guesthouse.

Day 2: Lawa & Karen Hilltribe Villages

PortraitLawagirls-MaeHongSonThe second day will be spend visiting remote and authentic Karen and Lawa hill tribe villages nestled in the mountains of Mae Hong Son. You will be taken on a cultural tour of these villages including the village school, temples and you will be able to observe and learn about the fascinating way of life of these hill tribes and village life. The night will be spent with the villagers in a traditional hill tribe family home.





Day 3: Around Mae Hong Son

MaeHongSonValley-MaeHongSonDay three will start in the early morning when you will depart for Mae Hong Son, along the way we will visit Wat Doi Gong Mu a famous hilltop temple and a must see as it offers superb views of Mae Hong Son valley. Then it is onto the remote Karen village of ‘Ban Ruam Tai’ also known as the ‘Switzerland of Thailand’ where you will overnight in a rustic bamboo cottage.

Day 4: Mae Hong Son to Pai

MorningMistscene-BanRuamThaiThe morning of the fourth day we will walk to Ban Ruam Thai Lake, with its mountain backdrop, it has been nicknamed the ‘Switzerland of Thailand’. After the walk it will be time to visit the nearby traditional Chinese village of ‘Mae Aw’ which is made up of Kuomintang descendants who came to seek refuge in Thailand. Mae Aw is characterised by traditional Chinese mud houses, Chinese tea and shop houses.

BambooRafting-LodCave-Pai-ChiangMaiOnce you have had time to discover Mae Aw we will head off to visit Pai, on one of the most scenic and mountainous routes in Thailand with opportunity to take photos and admire viewpoints. One of the highlights of the tour is our visit to ‘Lod Cave’, where you can take a bamboo raft through the cave to discover the limestone formations. The night of the fourth day will be spent in a guesthouse in Pai.




Day 5: Return to Chiang Mai

RidingElephants-Pai-ChiangMaiOn the morning of the fifth day there will be time for sightseeing in Pai, a visit to the hot springs and chance to go elephant riding before we all head back to Chiang Mai enjoying thelast of this very scenic ride.

It is important that you act with common sense and behave in the approriate manner while on any tour. Also check with your guide before if you are unsure of anything.

If you would like to bring gifts for the children in the village we recommend bringing items such as stationery, toys and fruit which can all be bought with the help of your guide before heading up to the villages.

There are some important items that you may want to take with you on your tour as they may not be easily available after you depart. Please take a moment to read the list of suggested items to bring.:

Meals are not provided in the price of this tour, but adequate time and suitable restaurants will be made available. During the tour your guide would like to introduce you to local cuisine in local hygienic restaurants.

The Mae Hong Son Loop road is full of mountain bends so travel/motion sickness tablets are advised if you tend to suffer car sickness.
